FAQ - Expanding an Active/Active XDR topology

FAQ - Expanding an Active/Active XDR topology

Detail

When two clusters are connected in an active/active XDR topology, if they are to be expanded, does it matter which order the clusters are expanded in? Should they be done at the same time?

Answer

When communicating with a remote cluster XDR behaves like any other client. This is true regardless of whether the topology is active/active or active/passive. An active/active cluster simply means both clusters are writing to each other, there is no deeper connection. For this reason, if the clusters are to be expanded, it does not matter if they are done at the same time or individually. When adding nodes to clusters it is advisable to do this one node at a time to prevent newly added nodes forming a sub-cluster of their own.

Notes

  • Aerospike recommends using the cluster-name parameter to ensure that nodes join only the cluster for which they are intended.
